Images of Chanel No.5 aboard a train....

With the anticipation building for the new campaign for Chanel No.5 aboard the Orient Expess en route to Constantinople/Istanbul, uniting new Chanel face Audrey Tautou (the protagonist of an upcoming film on the life of Coco Chanel, as analysed here) and a beautiful stranger (Travis Davenport) entranced by her perfume, we're all awaiting to see how the new spirit will materialise in the short film by Jean Pierre Jeunet (of Amélie and Delicatessen fame).

The good people at Chanel sent me a link with a teaser sequence of fragmented shots of the new mini-film which lasts 2.5 minutes and took 3 weeks to shoot in Paris studios, central France and Istanbul.

Take a look clicking on this link (and click on the other "titles" as well) and prepare yourselves for the full clip on May 5, symbolically in tandem with the perfume's number...

We will return with full commentary!

  2. K,

clarification: these are images NOT from the film with Tautou ("Coco avant Chanel") but from the NO.5 new campaign commercial which will be out online on 5th May!

  4. oh i see... well very excited about both- I just saw the pictures and was like yay! should have read properly! should be much better than the Nicole Kidman 'I love to dance' business... shame about that advert I like Lurhman, Santoro and Kidman- but not all together in a perfume advert it would seem

  5. This looks so much better than the Kidman one, very pretty and sensual! You just want to jump into it.

  6. L,

isn't that super cool? Apparently I heard they made the whole room have hidden interwined Cs to bring to mind the brand logo. So clever!
    Love that photo myself :-)

(Hope you're very well, will hop over to see!)

  7. K,

not to be pedantic, of course, I just didn't want you to be disappointed and expect different things. Hence my comment.

I think I share your view that the Kidman commercial, gigantic and ambitious as it were, left something to be desired (Gossip suggests there was more to it than meets the eye, but let's just not publicize this stuff).

There's a very glamorous, old-world charm about trains and the Orient Express in particular (and Istanbul is close to my heart too), so I hope this meets my/our expectations.

  8. Jen,

there's a different perspective, more European, less fairy-tale. And the light and photography is very paticular too. I love the fact that the last sequence on the link is in front of 31 rue Cambon. :-)

  15. I love A.T. for No.5.
Good idea, really. And i love Jeunet's work, so, i am really happy with the choices this time.
The whole Orient Express thing is very Euopean i think and nostalgia is a central theme.
    I am excited! :-)
