Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteBelated Easter Greetings, E! I had a week's holiday last year on Kalymnos (hope I have spelled it correctly). We were told of the extreme firework celebrations which take place there at Easter. It sounded alot of fun to watch from a safe distance! Nicola
ReplyDeleteThank you Dawn!
ReplyDelete(btw, will be replying to your mail shortly!)
Dear I,
ReplyDeletethey're cute, aren't they? Although a total mystery to me why they have been associated with Easter :O
Thanks Lavinia :-)
ReplyDeleteDear M,
ReplyDeleteI did and I even commented!
Dear L,
ReplyDeletethanks a lot: it was good :-)
Dear Nicola,
ReplyDeletethanks a lot!
Kalymnos (you spelled it fine!) is perhaps the most famous place of the nymerous islands who celebrate in such a noisy and colourful fashion: they make the "saeetes" which are quite dangerous to make and fire, you know. Every year there are accidents by amateurs....
The spectacle is indeed amazingly impressive though!
(it has a pagan root ~in that loud noise dispels evil spirits~ and a historical one as well ~in that it recalls the dynamite preparing for the National Revolution) ;-)
The bunnies are extremely fertile, and Easter was replacing an original fertility celebration, therefore the bunnies as Easter symbols? :)
ReplyDeleteA joyous Pascha from an Orthodox Christian in the midwestern USA! Christos Anesti!! Unfortunately, no fireworks over here ... that sounds like great fun!
ReplyDeleteVasily
Good theory SP! Indeed they're too fertile, hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWelcome Vasily and thanks! HOpe you had a good one as well... :-)
