A Very Special Giveaway for Our Readers

There are several giveaways on Perfume Shrine, because hey, who doesn't want to win something, and it's a good way to connect with my shyer readers as well. I don't usually post all the giveaway opportunities that come into my inbox from companies and PR agents because so many of them have no relevance or are boring and staid. But I was sent a courteous email by Shabby Apple, a vintage clothing line, and there was a variety of dresses to choose for my readers.

So, this is what I did. I made it a giveaway of one gorgeous, easy, stylish dress of my choosing for you to wear & enjoy and think a little of Perfume Shrine every time that you do.  :-)

I chose this model above, called Jacob's Pillow (click on the link to see details and alternative views). Not only is it something I'd wear myself in a heartbeat (in fact I do own similar things), but I thought it was both cute and streamlined enough, with its French-style polka dots and its trendy peplum detail; plus I should image it would hug curves and bring out the best of them. It's also available in a variety of sizes, is cotton stretch and would look good any time, dressed up or down (and would go perfectly with a classy vintage fragrance too!).

Careful: there's one caveat; the giveaway is open (due to specifications of the company) only to US readers. (And sorry guys this is a feminine thing, and you're not catered this time, but perhaps you could grab it for the woman in your life if you have one?) So if you have an address in the United States, please write a comment as to whether you enjoy vintage-looking clothing and why and you're eligible for winning this lovely dress. Draw is open till Thursday 8am and I will announce the winner later that day. Good luck!

  1. i love vintage style clothing! i find, as with many vintage perfumes, that the older designs have a richness or sophistication sadly lacking in much of modern attire. especially with clothing, the lines and flow of fabric are so much prettier to me, and the patterns and colors tend to appeal to me more as well. the dress you selected for the giveaway is a perfect example of something that combines practical, useful design with the flattering quality that appeals to me in vintage clothing.

  2. I love vintage fabrics and patterns and have collected vintage scarves and jewelry all my life. Vintage dresses generally have a graceful and modest feel that is often lacking in their modern counterparts, not to mention superior workmanship. I've often felt I was born in the wrong era and have decorated my home with lots of vintage items. I'm old enough to be amused to see so much of my life in the 70s and 80s now highly collectible! This dress is gorgeous and will probably be too small for me - maybe not- but I've instilled vintage values in my daughter, who would love this. Thanks, E, for the generous opportunity.

  3. I love vintage clothing! I feel it's usually constructed better than contemporary counterparts, and done with higher quality materials. Of course, this could just be a matter of the only the best of the past surviving. I also love the treasure hunting aspect of searching for it, and the uniqueness of the finds.

I love vintage clothing and jewelry. I especially love the bakelite kitschy pins & earrings, and beautiful 20's-30's Gatsby type jewelry. I have a gold with seed pearls & diamonds Lavalier from my grandmother that she is wearing in her wedding day portrait. Precious. I love that dress in the picture...kind of timeless. Such a great giveaway. It looks like something my godmother, Aunt Nettie, would have worn. She was a buyer for Gimbels Dept. Store in Phila., PA...long gone.. Her fragrance was Miss Dior...Whenever I smell the vintage version, she is right there with me, and, God I miss her. Thanks again for the draw.

Elena- what a special giveaway and thank you for it. Hugs ! I hope you are well ! I have been pretty quiet lately focusing on non perfume related stuff .
I love 50s inspired clothing - a la Marilyn Monroe. Men and women dressed very well in previous eras ! And I also went through a 1920s phase and I absolutely adore the looks and dress of flappers - the bobs, the dresses, the pefumes ( of course ) and the jewelry. I tired emulating Louise Brooks some years ago .LOL !

  6. i grew up thinking vintage meant costume-y and avoided it until I realized my body shape was working against my clothes. Finding good quality vintage style cuts works out amazingly well at flattering my figure while making me look put together. I'm loving that dress too, can never have too many polka dots

  7. I used to fund my impoverished 1990's Manhattan student experience by rummaging thru my local thrift store--which with its "buck a bag" days was truly thrifty--then reselling the best at the vintage emporiums of the East Village. It's funny to me that the early 1990's dayglo/raver looks are being re-appropriated as a throwback look, i.e, that the fashions of my youth are becoming "vintage".

This dress would suit me and my 40 inch peplum-desiring hips.

    Thank-you.

That's such a gorgeous dress. And I do like vintage styles. I love the silhouettes of the 1920s and so many of the sleek mod styles from the mid- to late 1960s. Sleek and somewhat minimalist always looks good, to my eye.

Please enter me in the draw. Thanks!

  9. What a fabulous drawing, thank you!
Not only do I like vintage clothing but I love vintage handbags. I just think designs were more original and the craftsmanship was much better. Volume is the name of the game now with little regard for quality, a lot of the times.

  10. I wear vintage often and have for years. The details, the quality, the way the clothes flatter all offer so much more than contemporary items. Plus, it's like a stained and soiled cookbook or a beatup pickup - you know the items were known intimately and loved heartily and have stories to share.

  11. I love vintage style. My very favorite fashion icons are Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. I'm drawn to the elements of understated sophistication and modest femininity. I'm not sure why many popular fashions are so risque and borderline vulgar today (for example, Beyonce on her current tour)....to me that's just not attractive.

Nothing is more thrilling than discovering a beautiful piece of vintage clothing or jewelry. They have a personality all their own. If you are also a lover of perfume you immediately start dreaming about what fragrance would be perfect for it.

I love vintage clothes because I'm vintage. Age has the advantage of allowing me to look at clothes that are now called vintage and recalling when they were being worn as the high fashion of the day. Much of what I design in jewelry would be considered vintage by most.

Such a pretty dress! It reminds me so of the 1940's. That was the era that I used to emulate when I first started wearing vintage clothing back in high school. It's still my first favorite, with the '50's a close second. What goes around comes around, that's for certain. Style is timeless when it's classic and worn with savoir-faire and confidence. Just as our perfumes can define us with certain notes that exude our own freedoms and self-assurances, our style can delineate us from the rest of the pack. Subtlety is the most beautiful item a woman can wear.

I enjoy vintage clothing because it can transport us to another age and time when the values of life were slightly more gracious and refined. I also have a life-long love of costumes and historical plays. Vintage clothes play into that in the best possible way.

  16. Love the look of that dress. It reminds me of the 40s when dresses were feminine. It would look great on my daughter. Karin

  17. I love vintage clothes! All through high school, I had my own style! I scoured vintage shops and thrift shops and wore only dresses from the 40s-60s, paired with combat boots! i was pretty proud of my personal style, which today translates to some of this dresses tailored to fit. combat boots not included... I recently found an early 60s dress at a vintage store a la Mad Men - picked up a clutch to match!

Great dress and a real classic! Unfortunately, I was not eligible for this one because I live in Europe...

  21. Oh, I would love to be entered! Not only do I wear vintage clothing, I sell in it my etsy shop! I would totally wear this dress. Has a little 40s vibe going on. Thanks so much for sharing! Julia
