  1. Thanks for this interesting clip, I have three comments:
    1. Kudos to Frederic Malle for injecting a bit of reality into the industry!
    2. If they offered for sale the set of framed photos on the wall behind him, I'd buy it in a flash.
    3. At last I got to hear someone pronounce chypre!

  3. Malle most definately has some interesting choices going, the one intriguing me the most is Estee Lauder's Pleasures. Intriguingly the only niche brands he has in his choices, is his brand and Goutal's. Otherwise all his scent choices are easy to find.

  4. Dear M,

thank you for your comment and LOL, you're right.
The photos are great (they're on the site, I think you can copy them and make your own little album).

  5. D. Ch.B,
thanks for stopping by. Malle has one of the most unique and respected lines, true. I love many of his fragrances.

  6. Dear J,

Pleasures is somehow accountable for a huge trend it seems (read the same on LT's guide recently) and is a huge bestseller, so this is probably why the inclusion: it validates a segment of the market who wants something light but not badly made.
Yes, he does inject his own in there, cunningly...
I think Allure wanted a rather mainstream direction, because too many niche things would be rather difficult to track for the average reader.

  7. Funny you should say he is going in a mainstream direction, because although his choices are mainstream, the age demographic of Allure is on the pretty young side. Which somewhat makes his choice even more intriguing because many of the choices are not considered "young twenty something scents".

  8. That's true, dear Jen, you're right.
I think they're aiming at "educating" through his column, don't you?

  9. Great clip! I couldn't resist going to the website and filling out the questionnaire. I'm curious to see the response.

I love and/or admire nearly all Malle's choices--although the Pleasures baffles me. I can't find much to like there.

  10. Yes, it is! I think the responses are mostly based on previous loved fragrances mostly (I got Noir Epices based on Opium referenced)

Pleasures is obviously a huge trendsetter. I kinda like the original, mostly because it has a peppery kick in there, which I appreciate. But be madly in love with it? Hmm..But I'd gladly wear it (and have) if gifted with it.

  11. Yes Goutal. Looks like "Heure Exquise" but can't be sure.
