National Fragrance Day Today

The Fragrance Foundation UK is celebrating National Fragrance Day on March 21st and what better opportunity to share your scented thoughts and choices? Every day is a fragrance day around these pages, but having a semi-official excuse to celebrate makes it more palatable to the rest of the people around one's obsession.

Fragrance has the ability to make us feel, to make us really think, to make us believe that we can fine-tune our own personal aura and presentation to the public in a way that no other "product" can.
It's evocative, it's transporting, it is even felt in the dark.

Today I'm wearing Caron's Tabac Blond extrait, a very special perfume for me, as it paved my plunging into a house I had little exposure to in my formative years, Caron being semi-absent from the local market. It more or less consolidated my longing for things unattainable and hard to get but it also made me realize that one likes what they like and that's priceless.

In celebration, please share your own scent story in the comments, right below this post. I'd love to read your stories!!

I'm wearing Korres 'Pure Cotton' today. I've spent the last week in a mist of 'Infusion d'Iris' and although they are very similar I like the light zest 'Pure Cotton' brings to the table - bit of a kick to start the week (I suspect it's the ginger root extract listed under Ingredients).

  4. Hi Elena, tonight I'm wearing "Barnardo Smoke" which is the perfume I created back in 2013 and the reason I ended up buying Tijon Fragrance Lab with my partner. We couldn't believe that we had actually designed such amazing fragrances. So many people comment on my perfume, I'm finally going to begin offering it to the public very soon! When I do, I'll let you know as I will no doubt want to do some sort of contest giveaway on PerfumeShrine!

    1. Dearest JOvan,

thanks for the lovely background on the perfume's story! I know you have a very eclectic catalogue and the experience of having one's own blend is surely one of life's most enjoyable luxuries.

      many hugs!

  5. Wearing YSL Majestic Rose. The most money I have ever spent on a scent! It doesn't really deserve the hefty price tag but...it's big and loud and that's the way I like them!

Oh, everyone is wearing such rare and wonderful things. I'm in a few spritzes of Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights! Lovely cozy oriental, not too sweet. But a masterpiece it ain't.

It's wonderful how perfume makes us feel all pampered, more than anything else we put on ourselves, I find. It's its own little magic!

    1. That's a nice one. A more refined walk into the "clean patchouli and radiant floral notes" begat by Narciso, She Wood, Idylle, etc. And I do know your intense love for perfume; that's why I feel so close to you, darling, we're the same (same sign too).

  13. I was reminded of #UKNationalFragranceDay by a lovely post by Roja Dove on his FB page about a certain way his mother used to smell. I will go for a similar account. I think most of us think of our Mums as first exposure to perfumery. I recently bought Penhaligon's Lavandula. I thought it a safe bet as Lavander has a very specific smell. As soon as I opened the bottle the smell reminded me of my Mother. That's exactly how she smelled when I was growing up. I remember mother washing clothes and in the last water adding lavender to the wash. She loved it. And in her honour I wore it on UK's National Fragrance Day!
