ReplyDeleteYup!
ReplyDelete(love them)
And here the intercutting between music and shots is sublime.
I had forgot how much I love this song and the group (boy, am I dating myself!) and the ad is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDid Dior buy the image rights to Versailles? (they also shot the J'adore ad there).
ReplyDeleteTods' (and other luxury brands') owner Della Valle bought the image rights of the Coliseum in Rome, among much controversy, though I haven't yet seen a Tod's ad shot there yet.

Noetic Owl,
ReplyDeleteDepeche Mode is underrated for their potential "dressing" other things: such as ads! :-) I liked the ad too very much.
I love the group too and it's not a bad thing to date yourself. ;-)
M,
ReplyDeletethis reminds me of an American journalist's idiotic (but totally serious_ comment on how Greeks are sitting on a trasure-trove of antiquities which they could exploit via advertising sponsors etc to get out of their economic crisis. Like holding banners of Coca Cola perhaps on the Parthenon or something? ;-? :-/
Anyway...I doubt it's as "official" as that (Would it mean no other Group -cuz I assume it's LVMH doing it for all their brands- has any rights to shoot at the Versailles? Geez!)
Interesting about Diego and the Colliseum but totally wrong for Tod's driving loafers (and everything stemming off those). If they made sandals gladiator-style it might make a tiny bit of sense. ;-)
To be short and on point, especially being an archeologist: I find such "exclusivities", if they exist, in bad taste. These are monuments to the whole of mankind and to the spiritual culture of the land and civilization that produced them; they're not for such crass exploitation. They can serve for artistic inspiration and tasteful use if the end result doesn't overshadow them.
