Valentine's Day: Personal Perfume Picks for Different Looks

Classifying preferences in fragrances is relatively easy compared to classifying styles of romance. Everyone seems to pepper their behavior with a mix of the flirty, the sexy and the erotic (there's a difference, I swear) before they entangle themselves in the intricasies of the human condition that is. So contrary to yesterday's post about different styles of scents for St.Valentine's according to personality from nuzzling to naughty, I am now offering the theory none of us could really peg themselves a certain way all the time, all the way, with all our beaus over the years. We just want to smell good!

My personal picks for Valentine's Day Fragrances (os shall I say Valentine's Night) do not err much from the troden path of tried & true "recipes" working on my own man. So what follows here ~contrary to other venues where I might have suggested things to suit a multiple variety of taste~ is intensely personal. And illustrated according to my tastes. See if you agree or not.

Guerlain Shalimar Eau Légère is for winged eyeliner, scarlet lipstick and a proper guêpière.

Thierry Mugler Angel Innocent is for tiny whites which belie their womanly appeal.

Chanel No.19 (eau de toilette or vintage parfum) is for classic raincoats and vertigenous black stiletto heels.

Ormonde Jayne Ormonde Woman is for when you're caught in the rain. Damn transforms to wham!

Caron Tabac Blond is for androgynous black leather days.

Agent Provocateur Eau de Parfum by Agent Provocateur: This naughty rose deserves a red dress with a cinched waist.Chocolate nibbled on the bed can follow.

And finally the promising Flashdance sweatshirt invites the cozy appeal of Guerlain's Cuir Beluga.

What are YOUR picks for Valentine's Day fragrances??

First I'd like to say I don't celebrate Valentine's Day this year, it's just another commercial hype/scam from corportate capitalism. That said my pick is Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Cheri, Serge Lutens Datura Noir and Chanel COCO (vintage edp or parfum).

  4. Emma,

neither do we (I like to say we celebrate Valentine's Day every day!) but it's something that readers expect to read about; and sharing my choices might be of some interest to them (to the snoopy ones, possibly, but nah, I like to think it's just a platform to share their own).
As usual, your choices run the gamut of eclectic with a consistent high degree of quality (even though I can't wear DN or Coco).

    Thanks for stopping by!

  5. B,

honey, I'm surprised!! He's such an attentive guy. But not into perfume, that much I recall.
Fracas is all out, so I'm sure that's promising. ;-)

How's your daughter? The little one? So nice to see you here!

  6. D,

glad you enjoyed! It's meant to be lighthearted but stylish all the same.
These picks do actually work on my man. I'm thanking my lucky stars he's got a good and tasteful nose.

  7. Santal Massoïa. No meaning in it, it was the first thing I grabbed in the morning.
This celebration of a nonexistent saint has overtones that, in here, long ago crossed the border of the territory of disgusting. Feb 15 is much better, it's Day of Discounted Chocolate.

  8. Ha! Yes! Commercialism. You're 100% right.
    Love some discounted chocolate.
SM is gorgeous and quite erotic! ;-)

(btw, forgot to say, your package did arrive but there was frightful leakage I'm afraid. Sorry to bear bad news. I'm trying to make sense out of what is there, will mail you shortly, Grateful for the gesture though!)

Happy Day, E.! Seeing the picture from Bull Durham of Susan Sarandon makes me want to go home and watch it. I love that movie!

SOTD is Attrape Coeur only because it was finally cold enough this morning to put it on.

    Hugs,
    Donna
    P. S. Liisa - Day of Discounted Chocolate is classic! Thank you!!

  10. Happy Day Donna!!

Yeah, that movie is awesome. And you chose a great fragrance to accompany the day!
It's been so very cold here these past several weeks I am having heat-withdrawal symptoms. But it allows me to wear all my heavy orientals without a care of offending in the world. (silver lining to everything)

  14. Something that makes me think of red or pink. Malle's Lipstick Rose or for a more lighthearted mood La Petite Robe Noire, the newer EDP. My choice will be Lutens La Fille de Berlin. Roses!!

  15. I think of red or pink on Valentine's day. My choice of scent will be Lutens La Fille de Berlin. I'll wear my roses!! For a more lighthearted mood Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noir has a red cherry mood that says Valentine's to me. Also, Malle's Lipstick Rose seems appropriate.

For Miss Dita von Teese, definitely one of her own fragrances!

I agree that Valentine's is commercial, but it's fun and I'm always up for fun and pretty things and any excuse to celebrate life ! :-)))

  16. Valentine's Day means red or pink to me. My scent will be Lutens La Fille de Berlin. I like wearing my roses. Also perfect for the day would be Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noir. Or Malle's Lipstick Rose.

I know Valentine's is commercial but I love it anyway, another excuse to celebrate pretty colors, lovely flowers and tasty things!!
