Aedes de Venustas Copal Azur: fragrance review & samples giveaway

How can a strictly indoors smell, that of burning incense, so tied to wooden pegs and tight clusters of people, gain an outdoorsy veneer? The French perfume school has long thrived on the exploration of indoor scents; from the culinary scents of hot butter, peachy and plummy compotes and pain d'épices fused into classic chypres and orientals, to the introspective scents of the church and the literary salon, full of incense, beeswax and the scent of the paper-knife between paper leaves, the ink that dots the pages... These reflect the traditions that have built France's reputation as the seat of good food and decent banter. But the great outdoors, a less Parisian perhaps, yet not entirely distant destination, was left uncharted right till the bucolic greeneries introduced with Vent Vert and the athletic agility of the 1990s marines. And then the outdoors came sweeping one day, sailing on.

This sounds like a really interesting one. Perhaps an incense that isn't too heavy in spring/summer? Thanks for hosting the draw, and I'd love to be entered for a chance to win.

Very intriguing. I have no preconceived notion of an Aztec or Mayan resinous scent but love the idea of a lemony lift to balance the heaviness of incense.

In the draw, this could be just the ticket for the approaching holidays spent inside and the hopeful Azul blue sky seen from inside a warm home on a winter morning.

  12. Blue + incense seems to be a recent trend in niche. Lutens keeps producing eaux which mix aquatic-ozonic and incense in various permutations. CDG came out with Blue encens last year, and now Duchafour provides another interpretation. Not a fan of blue in any form (except for the non-blue vintage heure bleue, ca va sans dire).

Waves both hands & a leg - smokey sea - actually, burning sea-soaked logs on the beach -

    Would love to try.

  22. Without one use of the word Oud (I'm still very much a lover) or mention of it being one of it's ingredients, my thoughts of how wonderful this composition must be with it's burning incenses, myrrh resin, cardamom and especially patchouli have my imagination and excitement eager to smell this intriguing new juice. Please allow me to enter the draw for a sample. Thank you.

No matter how many new marine perfumes come out I can never get enough, and I can never say they are just too many to try them.
The life started in the ocean and every time I get to the beach I connect with this greatness and unity of the nature and humanity.
And marine scents are there throughout the year and through all the seasons to remind me of this.
    Thank you for the oportunity.

  26. Copal Azur should be a challenge - all the various tastes I can think of in a bottle? Briny and smoky, bitter and sweet? Well, count me in, please! I am intrigued to an extreme! Thanks for the chance, Elena, and for the inspiring review, as well!

I would like to be included in the draw. I do like some marine scents and I am slowly getting to terms with incense as a note. I do think what memories we have of the ocean and beach depends on where we live, so would love to test this.

I tried the iris perfume from AdV, and it was not for me. Their signature scent smelling so realistically of freshly cut rhubarb is something I really want, I have been through a couple of samples, but would need to save up for that one, and find a scent mule.
