Thierry Mugler Les Exceptions: new fragrance collection

Launching October 2014, the release of the new haute parfumerie collection celebrates the new modern direction of the MUGLER fashion house under Artistic Director, David Koma, and Director Of Development, Marketing and Communications, Virginie Courtin-Clarins.

Les Exceptions symbolizes the dynamic revamping of MUGLER fashion and fragrances. Blends of original alchemies and inventive, unique ingredients come alive in five exceptional fragrances that characterize the essence of MUGLER: Chyprissime, Supra Floral, Fougere Furieuse, Oeintal  express and Over the Musk.  Created in France by renowned noses Olivier Polge and Jean-Christophe Herault, MUGLER Les Exceptions reinterpret and magnify the great blends of traditional fine perfumery.

Each Art Deco-inspired bottle with its streamlined, faceted design - decorated with a playful metal stirrup clip - showcases the distinctive luxury and provocative architectural design that is the House of MUGLER.

The 80 ml (refillable) EDP sprays will be available nationwide starting October 2014 on www.mugler.com ($225)

  5. M,

I do hope for you too. Though it seems that all these upscale, exclusive offerings rarely do (but they do crop up online sometimes).
Yup, the design is very good. I love the simple architectural feel of them combined with the luxurious hardware in silvery metal.

  6. NFS,

Mugler is usually a line with quirky and individual offerings, so I'm hopeful.

Carrot probably translates as orris (carrot seed smells like iris root).
Basil is spicy, like pepper and clove. It's good, if you ask me. I could picture both in an oriental just fine! ;-)

Pear is a more difficult note, since it comes from the flavors industry and is highly variable, but still, it can be done, it's not necessarily synonymous with tutti frutti. I guess saying "pear" is much more accessible to the consumer than offering the synthetic name. :-D

Bottles look solid & stylish - the scents should at least be interesting to explore. For me, fougere & chypre types have the most appeal, although not sure about that pear - food smells are, from my own personal perspective & without forcing it on anyone else, not what I want.

But the writing about them - honestly, it is amazing - "challenge the masculine character" & so on. Do they have a competition to see who can write the most extravagant nonsense?

  9. Mugler has done good stuff so far. So who knows, let's hope.

A pear chypre sounds like something potentially interesting. Pear doesn't appear in many perfume, but Chanel Jersey shows it can work (of course, I seem to be the only one who detects pear, or better pear juice, in it).

  11. C,

indeed they do sound nice and Mugler does unusual stuff as a rule, so fingers crossed for something intelligent.

  12. MH,

indeed the bottles look very nice, solid and luxurious and with no frills to make them too frou frou!

I believe pear in a chypre structure shouldn't bother much because the resinous/balsamic elements should hold it in check, it'd probably act as a diluting agent.

As to copywriting, yeah, tell me about it! Having dabbled I can tell you it's not easy but one can hold themselves before bordering on the ridiculous.

  14. M,

    exactly.

Funny that, I don't recall Jersey at all. Then again I was sent a tiny tiny sample in a swap. I was also determined (strike that out, prejudiced) that I wouldn't really like it for some reason. I need to locate some and re-try. Thanks for the reminder!
