Gisele Bundchen has been announced as the new face of Chanel No. 5 perfume.
According to WWD, the 33-year-old Brazilian model was shooting a video for the campaign this week in the Hamptons, New York, with film director Baz Luhrmann.
She was chosen for her 'natural beauty and modern femininity,' a Chanel spokesperson said.
The leap was natural since Gisele has been gracing the Chanel makeup advertisements and the line Les Beiges de Chanel for some time now. Nor was the elevated fee (Gisele is the highest paid model working at the moment) since it was already into consideration by the Parisian family-owned company.
Still, that's 3 spokes(wo)men in 3 years which makes it a record for the perennial Chanel masterclass.
Spokeswomen? What about that blokey one...do you still get the nightmares from it?
ReplyDeleteCorrect! I have placed a pair of telling parentheses on the word. :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't know what they were thinking with the Pitt commercial. It didn't make any sense.
Well, it was good fodder for subsequent parody wasn't it, lol :o)
ReplyDeleteS,
ReplyDeleteit was excellent for parody!!! Wish more companies came up with such parodical material.
My guess is that Pitt was just to get people talking about N° 5 again. It's a way of bringing the focus on this classic.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry Helg but Gisele does not "fascinate" me ..... even if dear old Baz is doing the commercial!!!
ReplyDeleteAKF,
ReplyDeleteexcellent observation! It did set people talking about it again. Maybe draw in a different demographic, making it all "new" again. Odd and not entirely successful, but it did create talk, that's for sure!
M,
ReplyDeletehi there! how are things? :-)
Gisele is a great supermodel, but we have seen everything from her, which deducts a bit from the mystique of a perfume commercial. In that I agree with you! I do realize that after the Pitt fiasco they wanted to go mainstream and do the "proper" thing (i.e. engage someone who is proven to be able to do the job correctly, which usually means a supermodel).
I think Tautou was great for this when she took the baton, though maybe not as glam as her predecessors.
We'll see…. ;-)
