Lou Reed: 1942-2013

Your face when sleeping is sublime
And then you open up your eyes

Then comes pancake factor number one
Eyeliner, rose hips and lip gloss, such fun
You're a slick little girl, you're a slick little girl
Rouge and coloring, incense and ice
Perfume and kisses, oh it's all so nice
You're a slick little girl, you're a slick little girl

Now we're coming out, out of our closets
Out on the streets, yeah, we're coming out

When you're in bed it's so wonderful
It'd be so nice to fall in love
When you get dressed I really get my fill
People say that it's impossible

Gowns lovely made out of lace
And all the things that you do to your face
You're a slick little girl, you're a slick little girl
Eyeliner, whitener then color the eyes
Yellow and green, oh what a surprise
You're a slick little girl, oh, you're such a slick little girl

Now we're coming out, out of our closets
Out on the streets, yes, we're coming out
Yeah, we're coming out ...

Or as Brian Eno said: ""The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band."

  1. I am heart broken. I love the Velvet Underground and, of course, Lou Reed. what a tremendous loss. I am a bit speechless.

I remember the first time I ran away from home w/ my best friend we went to see him in a seedy bar in St.Louis,Missouri. He wasn't well known then, but those of us who did know of the Velvet Underground had an amazing night that night. So sad :'( My generation had the best music (I think) as kids today will attest to and agree. I turned 61 last month and I still don't feel a day over 35. R.I.P. Lou Reed...

    RIP, Lou.

Morticia, you're lucky to have seen them! I agree, your/our generation did/does have the best music! I'm just a few years behind you, but I wish I'd been a little older for the sixties and seventies.

ah, well. it's all perfect for what we need to do.

    cheers,

  6. Morticia,

you belong to a lucky generation. The one who did more or less everything. *dreamy sigh*
You're certainly lucky to have seen TVU live.
We're losing the legends one by one. I just hope that younger people will get to know them before memory is erased. It looks like many younger people do have a keen interest, which is very encouraging.

  7. Jean,

his songs pay the best tribute possible. I'm playing my TVU albums as we speak.
