Belated Easter Greetings, E! I had a week's holiday last year on Kalymnos (hope I have spelled it correctly). We were told of the extreme firework celebrations which take place there at Easter. It sounded alot of fun to watch from a safe distance! Nicola

Kalymnos (you spelled it fine!) is perhaps the most famous place of the nymerous islands who celebrate in such a noisy and colourful fashion: they make the "saeetes" which are quite dangerous to make and fire, you know. Every year there are accidents by amateurs.... The spectacle is indeed amazingly impressive though! (it has a pagan root ~in that loud noise dispels evil spirits~ and a historical one as well ~in that it recalls the dynamite preparing for the National Revolution) ;-)
A joyous Pascha from an Orthodox Christian in the midwestern USA! Christos Anesti!! Unfortunately, no fireworks over here ... that sounds like great fun!

The bunnies are extremely fertile, and Easter was replacing an original fertility celebration, therefore the bunnies as Easter symbols? :)
