In the interests of research (if you have been following the Best Seller and
Best of/Top annual lists you know how historical archiving warms the cockles of my heart) I am throwing out a question to you, dear readers, today.
As simple as that: Which fragrances did you wear most in 2014? Not need for elaborate statistics, I need your assessment and feeling.
It could be something mainstream from
Cartier (La Panthere launched this year) or
Armani's Si (last year) or more researched, something from niche such as
Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale or
Copal Azur or even artisanal such as
Phi Rose de Kandahar by Andy Tauer...It could also be something older, such as
Chanel Coco, which many readers rediscovered, or a celebrity perfume, or a natural oil, no shame in anything....Please divulge!
I will do a sum up and include it as an addendum on the
Best Of 2014 List to follow.
My most worn fragrance (since I started taking notes) is Diptyque Tam Dao, followed by L'Artisan Passage d'Enfer and Maison Martin Margiela [Untitled].
ReplyDeleteMine have been Bottega Veneta, Shalimar, and Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser.
ReplyDeleteGuerlain Vetiver.
ReplyDeleteI have a new(1990s)bottle of this ready to go under the tree, as a Christmas present to myself! Yummy!
I don't repeat myself a lot (so many samples and decants) but I suppose I wore either A*Men Pure Coffee or A*Men Pure Malt at least twice a month, probably more like once a week.
ReplyDeletePhilosykos - but I'm new to fragrance and its the only one I've purchased. Everything else is still samples. :). Next year will be a better test for me I think!
ReplyDeleteThis year was a year of buying a lot of vintage Shalimar, so naturaly, I wore that but wore a lot of L'Heure de Nuit.
ReplyDeleteProbably a tie between Cabochard, Voleur des Roses & Halston Catalyst.
ReplyDeleteIt would be Chanel Bois des Iles, PG Indochine, Caron Montaigne and Hermes Jour d'Hermes Absolu.
ReplyDeleteCurious to se the results!
Regards, Nina
I am just going off of empty bottle liquid levels: Shalimar; Mitsouko; Youth Dew; Diva, Ungaro. Love your blog! Merry Christmas, Jeffrey
ReplyDeleteHermes L'Ambre des Merveilles, by quite a long way. After that, Dioressence, Bottega Veneta, Calyx, Laura Biagiotti's Roma and Piguet's Calypso got a lot of wear.
ReplyDeleteMadini Musk Pierre, Coromandel, Infusion d'Iris Absolue, and PdN Le Temps d'une Fete! These were my big four- iris for classes, le temps for making myself feel more social, and the other two for warmth at night.
ReplyDeletePS- I've loved your blog for ages. Thank you for maintaining it!
Infusion d'Iris as it's so easy to wear, Baiser Vole, lovely in warm weather, Lumiere Noire pour Femme has been the number one evening out perfume, then Feminite Du Bois and Cuir Fetiche as it got colder
ReplyDeleteTrayee, Dia, Shem-el-Nessim, Amour de Palazzo, Enslaved! Lately additional Iris Nazarena and Amorvero..
ReplyDeleteDefinetly Goutal. Grand Amour and almost as often Heure Exquise. When I get my hands on a bottle of Mon Parfum Cheri I imagine that will take first place.
ReplyDeleteI wear a lot of samples too, but most often I wear Givenchy Organza and L'Air du Desert Marocain.
ReplyDeleteIn the city of sin
ReplyDeleteEncens et lavande

Cartier-Le Panthere Eau Legere
Balenciaga-Quadrille
Habit rouge (Guerlain), L'Artisan's Timbuktu, L'Air de Rien (Miller Harris). The one I've been longing for all year is L'Air du Desrt marocain (Tauer), but my samples are now completely finished and my purse too flat.
ReplyDelete1. Serge Lutens Chergui
ReplyDelete2. D'Orsay Tilleul
3. Chanel Cristalle EDT
Mitsouko just edges it. Close runners are 5 O'clock au Gingembre and, erm, Star Trek Pon Farr.
ReplyDelete(I'm not joking about the Star Trek. It's no classic, but it's a pleasantly inoffensive thing for days when I want to smell nice but not challenging. And it cost £5!)
This year was a very Guerlain year for me, I got some vintage Shalimar, some older versions of it (the Mexican vanilla one) and AA Limon Verde plus Santal Royal. I very much enjoyed but haven't managed to buy yet Andy Tauer's Sotto La Luna
ReplyDeleteMariaA
Hey There,

Here are my most reached for..
Shalimar by Guerlain
Fleur de Male by Gaultier
Coco by CHANEL
Mohur by Neela vermeire
Liberte by Cacharel
Portia xx
Off the top of my head, I'd go with Vamp a NY because I kept wearing that during warmer months. Otherwise, I have several in circulation so nothing stands out much.
ReplyDeleteAs a general rule though warm, woody, oriental and gourmandy stuff.
Shalimar Guerlain
ReplyDeleteMitsouko Guerlain
Fleurs d'Oranger Serge Lutens
Sel de Vetiver Different Company
EAu d'Orange Verte Hermes
In the winter months, I wore Barkhane and Coromandel. During the summer it was Cristalle and R&G Jean Marie Farina.
ReplyDeleteI am in a wam climate almost all year, so I tend towards the lighter fragrances:
ReplyDeleteBulgary Eau Parfume au The Vert
Frederic Malle Angeliques sous la pluie
Ungaro Diva
Cartier Eau de Cartier
DelRae Mythique and Bois de Paradis
First place belongs to PHI Une Rose de Kandahar, then Habit Rouge and Knize Ten. And lately the Rose Flash from Andy Tauer is gaining much prominence in my daily perfume ritual.
ReplyDeleteOrmonde Jayne Ta'if, Loukhoum, Cantabelle by Galimard and Womanity. Quite a jumble.
ReplyDeleteJo Malone Backberry and Bay, Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles, by Kilian Rose Oud.

ReplyDeleteMitsouko, Daphne, Absolue Pour le Soir, Iris Ganache, Encens Mythique d'Orient, Traversee du Bosphore, Bas de Soie, Fille de Berlin, Like This and Fleur de Chine. (Lou)
Going by my notes, it's Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile, followed by Annick Goutal's Un Matin D'Orage. In the summer it was mostly Eau de Rochas, Cristalle and more Goutals - Neroli and Eau du Sud.
ReplyDeletePortia,
ReplyDeleteyou're very welcome to repeat this on Australian Perfume Junkies! Thanks for adding your contribution here. And so please tweet me the link when you're done so I can RT :-)
Memoirs of a Trespasser, Ragbha, Kalemat, and lots of samples/decants.
ReplyDeleteShalimar, Ninfeo Mio, Narciso(new), N°5, Mitsouko, Absolue pour le soir, Onda, Rubj, anything Mona, La nuit and Shalimar again!
ReplyDeleteDiptyque Geranium Odorata, Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, Dior Diorissimo
ReplyDeleteI've just been through my perfume timeline on Fragrantica and, bearing in mind that just like a few others here I have tons of samples and decants, it seems my most worn perfumes of 2014 are Vivienne Westwood Let It Rock, Yves Rocher Voile d'Ambre, Molinard Habanita l'Esprit and Britney Spears In Control Curious. Eclectic, LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great poll, can't wait to see the results! My most worn this year would have to be
ReplyDeleteEau des Merveilles
Chanel no 19
Bottega veneta
Bois des Iles
24 Faubourg
On working days I've reached for First by Van Cleef & Arpels and Annick Goutal's L'eau d'Hadrien (Oh Adrian).
ReplyDeleteWhen there's no work in sight, it was Frederic Malle's L'eau d'Hiver, Boucheron by Boucheron or Organza by Givenchy.
Special occasions were Chanel's 31 Rue Cambon and Creed's Angelique Encens.
This year I wore a lot of:
ReplyDeleteAndy Tauer L'Air du Desert Marocain

love these polls!
My most worn this year were:
ReplyDeleteIncense Rose / Andy Tauer
Geranium Oderata / Diptyque
Santal 33 / Le Labo
I think my most worn fragrance was Jicky EDP, probably followed by Shalimar and Terracotta, so I have clearly been on a Guerlain kick this year!
ReplyDeleteI've worn a LOT of samples, but my most worn fragrances would I think be Jour d'Hermes, Roberto Cavalli Oro, Agent Provocateur L'Agent, Mauboissin Histoire d'Eau, Traversee du Bosphore, and Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay. The latter two are favorites of my nephews, who clearly have excellent taste.
ReplyDeleteThese three have been in highest rotation: Hermes' Un Jardin en Mediterranee in summer, Serge Luten's Jeux de Peau in winter (if someone can tell me how to pronounce it I will be eternally grateful); and Bvlgari Black whenever. I also recently won Strange Invisible Perfume's Scorpio, which really grew on me and have worn every day since receiving it. Great question!
ReplyDeleteAhhh I am a lover of all and loyal to none, based on my most worn scents this year...
ReplyDeleteI started the year with Lanvin Eclat d Arpege, strayed to D&G Femme and Black, from there I went to Bahrain Eshraq by Asgharali. I moved to Blvgari, Jasmin Noir, and Omnia. As things started to warm up I moved to Narciso Rodriquez Essence, Cheap and Chic Moschino, even little Inner Grace...For the Summer I was in Eternity Summer circa 2005, Prada Infusion De Fluer D'Oranger and Angel Schlesser Femme. Had Ana Sui Secret Wish and a Flight of Fancy. But back to Bahrain I went with Qalb Al Muheet by Asgharali. the Summer was Eau Des Minimes cologne with some Versace Versence mixed in. As I end the year, I have been in Love with Madly Kenzo, Mon Jasmin Noir, Si Lolita, and GIRL Pharrell Williams!
Diptyque:Oyedo
ReplyDeleteAnnick Goutal: Nimfeo Mio
Hermes: Vetiver /tonka Hermessence

My most frequently worn daytime scent was Sideris. It's not that it's the most beautiful thing I own (I have some Amouage and also some gorgeous vintage Guerlains) but it's the most wearable for my informal lifestyle in Northern California. It also seems to work well with the natural landscape here, and I walk a lot so that is important to me.
ReplyDeleteMy most frequently worn nighttime scent was Seville a L'Aube, because is such a great sleep scent, calming and gorgeous (also my husband enjoys it).

ReplyDeleteA Rather Novel Collection - Five o'clock at Belvoir Castle
Ralph Lauren - Notorious
Tokyomilk - 03 Eden
John Varvatos Vintage (love this one but it's been too warm here in San Diego to wear it much - the combo of man fragrance on a lady + hot weather has been too weird.)
And my new one, Tokyomilk Dark Bittersweet, which I only just bought but have been favoring lately.
